Filling the pool

By planning an indoor waterpark properly, designers can help reduce the facility’s operating costs, according to Terry Ramaker, president, Ramaker & Associates in Sauk City, Wis.

“As part of the design, we try to get familiar with a state’s requirements and try to design a facility that can be run with a minimum amount of staff,” Ramaker says. “You can design pools so they can be observed and guarded by fewer guards. You can design the slides so more than one slide comes off a tower, so you can have [just] one guard up at the top to monitor the slides.”
