ook out, expert skiers. Theres a new slope at Camelback Mountain in Tannersville, Pa. Its fast, steep, black-diamond material
and it doesnt require skis.
Welcome to Camelbeach, the summer alternative to thrill-seeking in the Poconos and this years Class 14 Best of Aquatics winner. Although its located in a traditional ski area, you can leave the gloves and toe warmers at home during the summer to ride down 22 different water slides, or take a quiet bunny-slope ride in the lazy river or wavepool, complete with zero-depth access.
The choice of attractions comes with a family appeal. A five-person raft-slide, competition pool and racing slides are among the popular choices for families.
Thanks to its co-host, Camelback Mountain, Camelbeach is able to adapt its winter staff of ski-lift operators and snowmaking crew for the summer. They trade in their wool hats for sun visors to help run the aquatics facility.
Camelbeach also does some admirable charity work. It hosts an annual Cancer Survivors Day picnic; brings families of the Fresh Air Fund to the park; and works with the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
