A recent American Red Cross survey suggests nationwide, roughly half of adults have had near-drowning experiences in their lifetimes. Additionally, one in four of the 1,000 polled said they have known someone who drowned. Other findings: 90 percent of families with young children planned water activities for the summer and 48 percent intended to swim at a location without a lifeguard.
