Several crypto cases, all overseas, were reported recently. A possible cryptosporidium outbreak occurred last fall at the Aqua Fantasy Aqua Park Hotel in Kusadasi, Turkey. Many guests of the resort suffered from diarrhea, stomach cramps and other gastrointestinal symptoms after exposure to the facility’s water.

In Wales, a 4-year-old boy suffered a confirmed case of crypto so severe he was unable to attend school for several weeks. His parents and sister also were diagnosed with the illness, but recovered more quickly. It is unknown how the family became infected.

In addition, resort group First Choice has been hit with allegations that 1,500 visitors to six of its worldwide Holiday Village resorts have been taken ill with crypto, along with salmonella and campylobacter, occurring over the past three years. Class action lawsuits are currently under way after a surge in infections last summer.
