The World Health Organization has recognized the International Lifesaving Federation for its role in global drowning prevention. ILS now is designated with “WHO Official Relations” status, and all 195 WHO member nations and 100 ILS groups will collaborate on further international drowning prevention research and advocacy.

WHO also is a directing authority within the United Nations. It provides leadership on global health matters, sets standards and assesses trends.
