Solar Options Becoming More Feasible

It appears solar power is becoming a more viable option for aquatics facilities. Construction began last fall on an innovative project in Finland that reportedly will use solar to heat a natatorium and pool.

Earlier this year, Suntrek Industries introduced a Power Purchase Agreement in which the pool owner pays for the solar energy used to heat the pool, similar to paying a standard energy company for gas or electric. Under this new plan, Suntrek owns and maintains the equipment for 15 years and the hope is that this will make solar power a more affordable option for more pool facilities.

Meanwhile, Congress is considering a 30 percent tax credit for commercial solar pool heat installations.
