Controversial Club Sued for Discrimination

Huntingdon Valley Swim Club, the facility that received national criticism after turning away a camp group of 56 minority children, is on the receiving end of a federal discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department. The complaint asks that the club be ordered to cease all discrimination, including a policy put in place after the event in question, which bars all summer camp groups from using the facility. The Justice Department alleges the policy was a result of “racially motivated opposition from Valley Club members” who wanted to prevent that specific group of children from returning. According to media reports, the swim club filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in November.
