Michael Phelps has announced that that the London Olympics in 2012 will be his last. He plans to retire from professional competitive swimming when he turns 30 in 2015. He will be 27 at the 2010 games.

"I told myself I will not swim over the age of 30 and I will not," he was quoted as saying in a BBC Sport report.

In other Phelps news, the gold medalists narrowly beat Japan’s Hidemasa Sano in the 400-yard individual medley event USA Swimming’s recent Southern California Grand Prix.
