Judge’s Comment: Hersheypark’s aquatic amenities typify its commitment to family fun, safety and community.

Hersheypark offers the best of two great family vacations — a trip to the seashore and a day at a theme park — all for a one-price admission. Besides its amusement rides, the Hershey, Pa., park also features The Boardwalk, offering guests a full waterpark experience with 14 different water rides.

Aquatic attractions include The Shore, a 378,000-gallon wave pool; Coastline Plunge with four tube slides; Waverider, a stationary surf machine; and Intercoastal Waterway, a lazy river experience covering more than 24,000 square feet.

Team recruitment is conducted through on-site and off-site events, as well as online. Once hired, team members must attend a four-hour company orientation and an eight-hour operational orientation for their specific job location. Lifeguards complete an additional four-day certification process.

To keep guests safe and secure, lifeguards are first-aid and AED-certified. All park managers are certified Pennsylvania State Ride Inspectors and National Weather Service SkyWarn Certified Storm Spotters.

Hershey Entertainment & Resorts believes in preserving natural resources, so management has adopted a number of “green” initiatives. The most recent was the addition of Dream Machines, made possible through partnerships with PepsiCo and Waste Management. Guests can use the Dream Machines to scan the UPC codes of their recyclables and earn points for each item recycled. Those points translate to rewards in the form of discounts or coupons for recognized brands, or the points can be donated to charity.
