Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort opened in 2014 to attract families touring through the theme park mecca that is Orlando. Offering moderately priced amenities, the property also had to maintain a strict budget. To accomplish this, the design team chose to offer all the features in a single pool, rather than split up with multiple bodies of water. The resort had been modeled after 1950s and '60s beach resorts - with retro architecture and classic cars parked in the front. To blend in with the motif, the designers styled a dive tower of the era, which cut a distinct figure and sits in the center of the aquascape. Definitive lines and bold colors also harken back to the period.
