Ted Bockman, 85, dedicated 40 years to coaching at Cabrillo College and died June 10 from cancer.

During his tenure, Bockman coached college swimming and water polo and also founded the Cabrillo Threshers swim club in 1963.

Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Bockman began his coaching career in 1953 at a community college in Lancaster, Calif., after serving in the Army. Bockman joined Cabrillo College in 1961, and retired in 2001. Bockman then volunteered at Soquel High School in Soquel, Calif., as a water polo coach for more than a decade.

Bockman is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Carol; sons Chip Bockman, a lifeguard supervisor for California State Parks, and Peter Bockman; daughters Kimberly Cox and Kerry Agarpo; and nine grandchildren. Read More
