1.Hire pool consultants. They will check for compliance, safety hazards, design recommendations and other risk management issues of which owners may not be aware.

2.Supervise all lifeguards. This keeps guards vigilant and performing at their best without distraction.

3. At hotel check-in or signing of an apartment lease, verbally review safety procedures and make sure parents understand they must watch their children around the pool.

4. Train all staff members in CPR and first aid.

5. Place safety equipment within reach. Check that fences and gates are secure and working properly, signs are clear, and a working phone is nearby.

6. Have a good insurance policy. Families often sue to place the blame on someone else, and settlements can meet or exceed the policy limits.
