The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Enterprize Management and Schlitterbahn Beach Resort Management, doing business as Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark and Resort in South Padre Island, for six safety violations that led to the death of a lifeguard and caused severe injuries to a maintenance worker earlier this year.

OSHA also levied fines of $96,000 against the two entities, according to the original report by the Houston Chronicle.

As stated in a press release from the U.S. Department of Labor, the violations were issued for failing to protect workers from hazardous energy sources.

OSHA launched the investigation in March after the 20-year-old lifeguard and maintenance supervisor were pinned between the gate and the wall of the wave machine when it inadvertently activated, the news agency reported. Read More
