When KeAir Swift, 14, was drowning in an East Detroit Public Schools swimming pool, it was David Zauner, a fully-dressed school official, who jumped into the pool and pulled the boy out, according to witness statements.
Now, Zauner is suing the school district and athletic director John Rizzo, saying the district and Rizzo made up a paper trail to suspend or terminate Zauner because he cooperated with police during the investigation. Criminal charges were brought in the drowning against the substitute teacher charged with supervising the pool.
