Tana Seeley was, by many accounts, the driving force that got the $5.4 million Mission Valley Aquatic Center in Polson, Mont., built. It opened on May 20, 2013.

Seely moved to Polson, a city of approximately 5,000 people in northwest Montana, 16 years ago and was surprised that the community didn’t have a pool or aquatics facility.

So Seely started a committee 11 years ago and, as the years passed, she found even more reasons to keep the project going. It wasn’t just water safety, but also therapy and rehab components that drove the project for the year-round, indoor facility. Fund raising to pay off $800,000 of personal loans continues, but the community enjoys the center’s therapy pool and the eight-lane, 25-yard main pool.
