Hanley Wood, publisher of Aquatics International magazine; the National Swimming Pool Foundation; and the Foundation for Pool & Spa Industry Education have reached a business alliance agreement to create, market, sell and deliver educational courses to aquatics professionals. The first project, expected to launch online before summer 2011 will be the Aquatic Energy Auditor Course. That course, and future courses on basic electricity and basic hydraulics and circulation will be available through all three platforms Hanley Wood University, NSPF and FPSIE.
“There’s a synergy here,” said Michael Orr, executive director of FPSIE. “This agreement has far-ranging potential for developing new courses that have not been developed previously.”
Formalized at the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, held earlier this month in Las Vegas, the agreement capitalizes on the strengths of each party with the goal of providing robust educational content.
FPSIE and NSPF will develop and package content, while Hanley Wood will take a leading role in marketing and distributing it, via print and online publications and the online education source, Hanley Wood University.
“Because of the longstanding relationships all three organizations have with the various aspects of the pool and spa markets, we all feel this is the beginning of what hopefully will become the dominant industry educator,” said Dick Coleman, group publisher for the Hanley Wood pool market properties. “This agreement, with the two finest educational partners in the industry, is also a natural progression for Hanley Wood University into the pool and spa educational arena.”
Hanley Wood University was launched just a few years ago and already it provides more than 120 courses, accredited continuing-education units for the American Institute of Architects, the National Association of Home Builders, the American Society of Interior Designers and the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions, noted Coleman.
“We intend to achieve more together than we can each achieve individually,” said Tom Lachocki, Ph.D., CEO of Colorado Springs, Colo.-based NSPF. “This team has respective leadership in communicating, developing online training, and topic expertise. Together, we stand to lay down a foundation of knowledge that will lead our field to excellence.”
