After a 45-day stint in an Arizona drug/alcohol residential treatment facility, Michael Phels, the most decorated Olympian in history, is prepping for his final Olympic run in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Games. The champion, who swam his way to 18 gold medals and 22 medals overall across three Olympic games, agreed to go to rehab after a series of drug- and alcohol-related incidents, including a DUI charge, an impaired driving charge, and a photo that was taken of him smoking a bong, which appeared in a British tabloid. After emerging from rehab Phelps claimed that, “I was just happy,” and he’s been dedicating himself to Olympic-caliber training ever since.
