Terracon is celebrating its golden anniversary this year. Headquartered in Olathe, Kan., it is a leading provider of environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials consulting/engineering services, with more than 150 offices and 3,400 employees nationwide.
But back in 1965, the enterprise began as Soil Testing Services of Iowa Inc., founded by Gerald Olson, PE. In 1980, the company was renamed Terracon Consultants Inc. and became employee-owned. The current president/CEO, David Gaboury, PE, has led the firm to nearly $500 million in revenues over the past 18 years.
Additionally, Terracon has jumped nearly 30 spots in the past 10 years on Engineering News-Record’s Top 500 Design Firms rankings, making it to No. 35 in 2014.
Anniversary activities will occur throughout 2015. As part of the celebration, the Concord, Calif., office will host a client appreciation event in June. The host is Neil O. Anderson & Associates, which was purchased by Terracon in 2014. NOA focuses on geotechnical engineering, materials testing, aquatic design and swimming pool engineering.
“This anniversary is about honoring our clients who have put their trust in us,” Gaboury said, “and our employees, who work hard every day to give back to their communities. We’re just getting started and are excited for the next 50 years.”
