The village of Ridgewood, N.J., has reached a settlement of $2.1 million with the family of a 13-year-old boy who drowned in a community pool in 2008. The case was slated to be reheard after an appellate court reversed an earlier jury trial judgement.

Soo Hyeon Park drowned at Graydon Pool on July 15, 2008, when he was visiting the area from South Korea. Nine lifeguards were on duty that day, but failed to notice the boy in distress.

In 2011, a jury at a previous trial for the case awarded Park's family $10 million in damages, which were modified post trial. The case was appealed. Earlier this year, a New Jersey appellate court reversed the judgement and sent the case back for a new trial. Read More
