The Polynesian Water Park Resort in Wisconsin Dells is in the process of being converted into a luxury vacation resort with a $12 million renovation.
Phase one of the five-year transformation has been completed, with several suites redesigned, expanded or modernized. By renovation's end, more than 200 guest rooms plus 200,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor waterpark area will have been revamped.
Updates to the waterpark itself are in the design stage and will be part of the next renovation phase, expected to begin in fall.
"We are excited to blend the unprecedented history of the Polynesian Water Park Resort with modern design elements to create the ideal family vacation destination," said Barney Barber, vice president of resort operations for Capital Resorts Group, which purchased the property in 2014.
The Polynesian was built in 1994 and is among the first indoor waterparks in the country, according to Capital Resorts Group, which has spent more than $3 million renovating it since acquiring it.
