The world's largest wave pool is one step closer to becoming a reality after a city council in Australia gave a proposed project preliminary approval.

The $90 million resort complex, slated for construction in the Sunshine Coast metropolitan area of Queensland, will also feature pools and lagoons, water slides, play structures, themed restaurants and food outlets, souvenir shops and hotels, according to My Sunshine Coast Life.

"This is one of the most important tourist attractions council has considered in a long time," Divisional Councillor, Rick Baberowski, told the news agency. "The world's first hi-tech wave pool will be valuable in our quest to promote the region as a national and international destination."

When complete, the complex will complement other area attractions, including the Australia Zoo and Aussie World, which all are located within close proximity to the proposed construction site. Read More
