A popular watepark in a coastal town in Ireland was the victim of armed robbery. According to a report in the Irish Independent, four masked individuals stole an undisclosed amount of cash from Funtasia Waterpark in Drogheda.
Described as a family activity center, the waterpark also is host to a bowling alley, crazy golf, rock climbing, video games, simulators and a casino. Witnesses described the scene as "terrifying" and "chaotic."
Frank Godrey, a local councilor, said armed crimes such as this are becoming more frequent in the region.
"There's a lot of places now being targeted and it seems that there's nobody safe wherever they go."
While this crime appears to have been motivated by money and not hate, it serves as a reminder to make sure your staff is prepared to handle any type of scenario involving a weapon. Earlier this year, lifeguards in Oregon drew upon experience from active-shooter training scenarios to assist in the aftermath of shooting. Does your facility have a plan?
