If you want an Olympic swimmer in the family, try enrolling your child in Johnny Johnson's Blue Buoy Swim School in Tustin, Calif. The private swim school was founded in 1956 and has seen five of its alumni compete in the Summer Olympics.

But Blue Buoy, one of the country's oldest swim schools, doesn't just cater to elite swimmers: Johnson's facility offers lessons for infants through adults. Those students include kids with special needs, as a result of Blue Buoy's partnership with a local Orange County group in 2010 to offer a swim program for children with Down syndrome, autism or other issues.

Water safety is so important to Johnson that he and his wife founded Safer3 Water Safety Foundation (formerly Swim for Life), which promotes anti-drowning programs and practices.
