Lu Chung-chi, a Taiwanese event organizer at Color Play Asia, has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for the part he played in putting together a party at the Formosa Fun Coast waterpark outside of Taipei. On June 27 of last year, 15 people were killed and 331 were seriously injured in an accidental explosion during a performance.
Colored powder was sprayed over partygoers as they watched a performance on stage. The powder was flammable and ignited from the heat of event spotlights, resulting in a fireball. Victims, most of whom were in their teens and early 20s, suffered internal and external burns.
Shilin District Court found Chung-chi responsible, citing that he knew the potential risks and used the colored powder anyway.
