It appears solar power is becoming a more viable option
for aquatics facilities. Construction began last fall on an
innovative project in Finland that reportedly will use
solar to heat anatatorium and pool.
Earlier this year, Suntrek Industries introduced a Power
Purchase Agreement in which the pool owner pays for the
solar energy used to heat the pool, similar to paying a
standard energy company for gas or electric. Under this new
plan, Suntrek owns and maintains the equipment for 15 years
and the hope is that this will make solar power a more
affordable option for more pool facilities.
Meanwhile, Congress is considering a 30 percent tax
credit for commercial solar pool heat installations.
