It’s official: Canada’s largest theme waterpark is now in business.
Located between Montréal and Ottawa, Calypso officially opened
to guests in June 2010.
The tropically themed waterpark, developed by Village Vacances
Valcartier Group, spans 100-plus acres and includes more than 35
water slides and 100 water games. It also features a wide range of
entertainment options, two international-level beach volleyball
courts and ample green space.
Signature attractions include the wave pool — which can hold
roughly 4,000 guests — and the Jungle Run River. This
one-of-a-kind lazy river, approximately 1 kilometer long, takes
riders through vines and vegetation and down rapids reaching a
speed of 2 meters per second.
Promoting it all are the waterpark theme characters: Calypso, queen
of the waves; pirate Captain LaPlank; thrill seeker Sara Max; the
mysterious Dr. Dunk; and ecological adventurer Wildman Jack.
Guests can also take advantage of the Money at My Fingertip system.
Using biometric technology, this simple system allows guests to
access their money at all times, without having to carry it with
All told, the development is one of Canada’s biggest tourist
projects and, during the summers, it will employ more than 500
people, including 125 lifeguards.
