As Aquatics International has reported, there is some overlap between waterparks and the great American institution of shopping malls.
And it seems the two industries are getting cozier.
In the latest possible marriage between shopping and splashing, the owners of the Mall of America are proposing to lease space to the City of Bloomington to own and operate a massive indoor waterpark. The project is estimated to cost taxpayers between $150 million and $250 million and would be one of the largest in North America at 225,000 square feet, according to the Star Tribune.
Unlike the nearby Great Wolf Lodge that opened in December, it would be open to the public.
The city seems open to the idea. Officials said they will conduct a feasibility study.
