Whittier police on Tuesday evening arrested a 33-year-old Norwalk man suspected of committing lewd acts with a 13-year-old girl whom he met while working as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool in Commerce, authorities said.

The suspect, identified as Jason Michael Anda, was arrested in Van Nuys on Tuesday at about 9:45 p.m., police Officer John Scoggins said.

Earlier this week, the girl and her family reported to police that she had met the suspect at Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce sometime this year and had developed an “inappropriate relationship,” Scoggins said. Anda worked as a lifeguard and swim coach at the public pool.

Declining to discuss the circumstances of the alleged lewd acts, he said at least one of the incidents occurred in Whittier.
