Mother Who Lost Her Son to a Drowning Incident Vows to Become a Lifeguard

Genesis Holmes was 13 when he drowned in a pond in Hollywood, N.C. Now his mom is doing her part to reduce the staggering drowning rates that have claimed a disproportionate number of young African American children.

“For Jennifer Holmes, 39, the only way to make peace with Genesis’ death was to make peace with the water,” reports The Post and Courier.

Holmes is taking lifeguard training courses and plans to become certified by the time Hollywood opens its very first public swimming pool, named the Genesis Pool.
