In addition to fun, the design team needed to promote efficiency of space, budget and energy usage. The splashpark and interactive waterfeatures are run with a variable-frequency drive to improve energy efficiency.
The theming was meant to echo the city and its attractions with a playful tropical paradise vibe, reinforced with bright colors and icons such as tropical birds, sea creatures and tiki huts.
As an expansion of an existing hotel, the aquatics space had to be developed within the confines of the tennis courts it would replace — all while the hotel remained fully operational. Several cost-saving measures were used to stay on budget, such as reusing existing mechanical spaces and landscaping areas, and encouraging the owner to finalize and approve play features upfront to reduce change orders and streamline construction.
