HydroApps, which provides cloud-based documentation platforms to help with aquatics-facility operations, has become its own company.

Aquatics juggernaut Counsilman-Hunsaker started HydroApps in 2018. Earlier this year, it turned over ownership of the operation. Former Counsilman-Hunsaker President Scott Hester and former Board Chairman/Principal Doug Cook now lead the firm, which is owned by them along with a number of other individuals. The company remains headquartered in St. Louis, but its five-person staff works from various locations in the U.S.

Counsilman-Hunsaker and HydroApps still work together with certain clients, Hester said, with the former providing consulting services and the latter performing documentation.

When HydroApps first started, it had 11 dedicated clients across a few dozen sites. With the introduction of several platforms to meet the needs of diverse operations, it now serves 821 active sites, Hester says.

“This transition provides more freedom and flexibility for HydroApps to continue to grow the platform for its brand with a level of autonomy,” Hester said. “It allows us to independently partner with anyone and everyone who is a good fit for us. That was a little more difficult to do when you’re connected solely with a well-known brand such as Counsilman-Hunsaker.”
