Last year, drownings in Arizona’s Maricopa and Pinal counties made history. Children’s Safety Zone reported 79 fatal drownings of adults and minors in 2024 — the most since they began recording this data in 2005. The number of children under five who fatally drowned rose from 12 in 2023 to 19, a 58% increase. These figures include drownings in all kinds of venues, not just pools.
