Green is good for Great Wolf Resorts. Headquartered in Madison, Wis., the company operates 11 waterpark resort properties. Great Wolf Resorts recently became the first and only U.S. hotel chain to have all of its U.S. properties “Green Seal Certified Silver,” recognizing the aggressive eco-friendly initiatives in place throughout all its properties.

Sustainability efforts include not only using recycled water, but also managing water with low-flow showers and toilets; placing recycling bins throughout Great Wolf Lodge properties; participation in a food composting program; and the use of environmentally sensitive cleaning supplies and paper products.

The company mandates that any new construction be LEED-certified, and include energy-efficient lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances.

When it comes to resort waterparks, chemicals have been reduced and pool systems include technology that operates with 80 percent to 90 percent less water than traditional filters. Great Wolf Resorts also has partnered with National Geographic Kids to provide children's environmental education and entertainment. Content appears on the Project Green Wolf television channel and an interactive Website, and Daily “Wolf Walks” at various lodge properties now include discussions about the environment and living sustainably.
