The first waterpark to open in Houston in decades is nearly complete. Construction on Typhoon Texas is about 80 percent done, and the Houston Business Journal has a sneak peak at the project so far.

Slated to open May 28 and operate through Labor Day, the 25-acre park will have 1.3 miles of slides upon completion. A 25,000-square-foot wave pool and a winding lazy river will complement the facility, while the park's restaurant will serve made-from-scratch "restaurant quality" Southern-inspired food.

The park's developers said Typhoon Texas will address Houston's pent-up demand for a waterpark, according to the news report. By comparison, the Dallas-Fort Worth area has eight waterparks, while Houston only has one other waterpark.
