After nearly seven years, the tragic story of a teenager's death has come to a conclusion.

The YMCA of Long Island, N.Y., three lifeguards, and an aquatics coordinator agreed to a settlement regarding the death of Marc Dawson, a 17-year-old who died a week after being found unconscious at the bottom of the facility's 4-foot-deep lap pool, according to Newsday.

YMCA spokesman Mark L. Smith, said a settlement was reached in November 2014. The amount was not disclosed.

"All parties believe this is the most positive way to reflect on the memory and legacy of Marc Dawson, and will keep the exact terms of the mediated settlement private," Smith wrote in an emailed statement to the news agency.

Ray Dawson filed the lawsuit, which alleged the plaintiffs were "reckless, careless, and negligent in the ownership, operation, management, maintenance, control, life guarding and supervision of the subject premises." Read More
