In July 2001, the town council-appointed Blue Ribbon Committee began holding numerous public meetings to identify and develop strategies for responding to the community’s needs and wishes for projects in a future bond election. An overwhelming majority of residents voiced their desire for Flower Mound to build more parks and recreational facilities.

As a result, the town held a bond election in February 2002, in which residents voted to approve $25 million in bonds to build three primary parks and recreation projects: Bakersfield Park, a soccer, softball and baseball complex; Chinn Chapel Soccer Complex; and a community activity center. With the recent opening of the Community Activity Center, the final project from the 2002 election, all three facilities are up and running. With a variety of amenities, ranging from aquatics and fitness areas, to the teen room, the Community Activity Center has something for residents of all ages.

In order to meet the needs and wants of future users, a great deal of thought and consideration were put into the planning of the Community Activity Center, with involvement from within the community from the Seniors in Motion and Youth Action Council groups. Not only do seniors have an established home base to meet and teens have a place to gather, but the new facility is allowing the town to introduce other new recreation programs that were not attainable in the past.

The indoor natatorium houses an 8-lane competition pool with diving area, tube slide and climbing wall as well as large shallow area that is utilized for open swim, swim lessons and aquatic exercise. The natatorium also offers a splash pad, deck area with seating for socializing, and private rooms for rental, whether it be a birthday party or family reunion.

Among the outdoor aquatics, guests can enjoy a leisure pool with zero-depth entry, an activity area with interactive play features, three lap lanes with a volleyball net and basketball hoops, a current channel with vortex, and two tube slides. For those patrons who prefer to spend time relaxing outside the water, there is plenty of deck space decorated with lounge chairs, shade and tables.

Indoors, the Community Activity Center also offers a large, two-court gymnasium with drop-down divider screen, a full-service fitness area with a variety of exercise equipment and a three-lane track ideal for walking, jogging or running.

The pools, gymnasium and fitness areas may be the main attractions; however, supplementary areas are also an important aspect to the successful design of the Flower Mound CAC. The facility offers ample parking with convenient drop off and pick up areas with a safe transition from the lot to the front entrance, spacious locker rooms, a teen room with games and big screen TV, a concession stand with seating areas, rentable multi-purpose rooms with a kitchen, child care center and senior citizen lounge equipped with a coffee bar and restrooms.

With all it has to offer, the Flower Mound Community Activity Center is your destination for fun! The CAC has helped weave the threads of the community by offering recreational value that meets the needs of each demographic of the community. The Community Activity Center promotes togetherness, family, wellness and ultimately enhances the quality of life.
