The new Kalahari Resorts Pocono Mountains isn't opening until August, but the park already is slated for expansion.

And the move could make the facility the largest indoor waterpark in America.

In November, Lehigh Valley Live reported that the $350 million African Safari-themed indoor waterpark project would be set on 150 acres and would feature a "retractable roof, swim-up hot tub bars and for those 21 and older, smaller and medium-sized slides for toddlers and children and larger thrill slides."

Now, the firm plans to add an additional 400 guest rooms, expand the indoor waterpark by 100,000 square feet, and increase the outdoor waterpark's size by two to three acres.

"It's unbelievable to realize that in 15 short years, we've gone from a pizza pub in Wisconsin Dells to last year being named 'The World's Coolest Indoor Water Parks' to now on the verge of creating the best indoor waterpark in the world with a truly unparalleled guest experience," Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, said in a statement, according to Successful Meetings."There will be no indoor or outdoor attraction in the world that can compete with our Poconos resort. With nearly 1,000 guest rooms, top-notch indoor/outdoor attractions, award-winning dining, one-of-a-kind convention space, and full-service spa, salon, retail shops, and more, the resort will be the ultimate oasis for families, young couples, business travelers, and anyone else who walks through our doors."

This news falls on the very heels of the grand opening of Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, which for now, currently holds the title of largest indoor waterpark in the Northeast. Read More
