Central Valley Health District in Jamestown, N.D. received the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant from the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance.

The $5,000 grant honors a public health official or department who has made outstanding contributions to advance the public’s healthy and safe use of recreational water in pools, spas, and waterparks through educational, safety, operational, and technical programs. It is is named in memory of Robert Neil Lowry, Ph.D., a premier expert in pool water-treatment and longtime member of PHTA’s Recreational Water and Air Quality Committee (RWAQC).

The agency was recognized for its efforts conducting regular inspections, educating aquatics operators how to keep up with the latest codes, and educating its staff on aquatics concerns. “The Central Valley Health District has done a tremendous job in examining its codes and regulations, updating them to not only include recent scientific advancements, but also to include non-traditional recreational water activities,” said John Weber, vice chair of the PHTA RWAQC. “Their outreach and education to their community has been and will continue to be important...”

CVHD plans to use the grant funds for outreach to local licensed facilities, including the development of a newsletter with guidance on regulatory compliance and safety. It also will use funds to educate patrons on safe and healty use of aquatic facilities.
