The deadline to apply for one of NSPF’s 24 scholarship and fellowship grants within the aquatics field is rapidly approaching. Those who are CPO-certified – as well as graduate students and post-doctoral fellows – have until June 1, 2016 to turn in their applications. Each of the awards falls in the $1,000 to $2,000 range.

To be able to apply for one of the 14 scholarships, the individual must be either an active CPO Operator, an NSPF Instructor, or the immediate family member of an active CPO Certification holder or NSPF Instructor, and submit a completed application package. The National Swimming Pool Foundation established its scholarship program to honor public pool and spa operators, and it describes them as professionals who have pursued further education to better protect public health after achieving the NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator certification.

For the 10 fellowships, the applicant must be enrolled in an academic institution full time and be working toward an advanced academic degree or post-doctoral research. These applicants are encouraged to “conduct research on how to reduce risks associated with recreational water activities. Alternatively, research can focus on, and document the health benefits of, aquatic activities.”

Recipients will be notified on or before August 1; the scholarship and fellowship grants are for the fall semester.

For the past decade, the National Swimming Pool Foundation has awarded $194,000 in scholarships and fellowships. NSPF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 1965 and based in Colorado Springs, Colo.
