Thanks to USA Swimming, thousands New Jersey kids in Asbury Park, Bayonne, Jersey City, Newark and Plainfield will enjoy free swimming lessons this fall as part of the organization’s efforts to curb drowning amongst minority children.

Olympic gold medalist Cullen Jones, the first African American male to hold a world record in the sport, was instrumental in securing funds for the initiative. USA Swimming has earmarked $400,000 to be shared between the participating cities.
