New Solar and Pump Codes Expected

1 MIN READ

The Feds are set to develop new pool-pump requirements that could affect how these products are manufactured, while multiple solar initiatives have begun.

While the pump code will immediately go into effect across the country when published, the solar codes will be optional and enforced in those states and municipalities that adopt them.

The pump code is to be developed by the Department of Energy, which has put out a notice and is assembling a committee to begin writing a code pertaining specifically to pool pumps – of all types and functions, whether they be used for filtration or as booster pumps to power spa jets or waterfeatures. Those powering portable spas and ponds, as well as sump pumps, likely will not be included, said Gary Fernstrom. The scope likely will include single-phase pumps between 1 and 5 hp that serve residential and small commercial applications and small commercial applications.
