To beat the recession, some aquatics venues are marketing with an altruistic component. Last month, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari visitors who brought canned goods donations received $5 in “Holibucks” to spend in the Santa Claus, Ind., park. Six Flags recently partnered with Beyond Tribute, a nonprofit established for veterans suffering from brain injuries and other neurological problems. The promotion included an online discount ticket offer benefiting Beyond Tribute. Other charitable promotions have been held at Camelbeach waterpark in Tannersville, Pa., Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport, Miss., and Holiday Inn Splash Bay Indoor Waterpark in Maumee, Ohio.
