Texas, a state known for its loose regulation, may have a code designated for municipalities to adopt.

A newly introduced bill in the Lone Star State would name the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code as the code that municipalities could adopt.

House Bill 2858 names the most recent version of the ISPSC, which applies to fo both commercial and residential pools. It is written by the International Code Council with the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals.

Municipalities would be directed to choose the most recent version, with the option of adopting future amendments as newer editions come out.

Introduced earlier this month, the legislation comes with pool-industry backing: It was authored by pool and spa builder and service professional Steve Toth, who also serves in the Texas State House of Representatives. The bill also is endorsed by the Texas Pool and Spa Coalition (TPSC).

It has been assigned to the Urban Affairs Committee.
