Despite previously announcing a definitive merger agreement,Apollo Global Management and Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. have mutually decided to call off the transaction. Lack of investor support from Cedar Fair unit holders was ultimately responsible for halting the buyout.

Cedar Fair will reimburse Apollo $6.5 million for some expenses incurred in connection with the agreement. With Cedar Fair off the table, Apollo may have set its sights on rival Six Flags, though Mark Shapiro, Six Flags’ chief executive, has denied this rumor.
