Last month Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains became the largest indoor waterpark in the country.

The 100,000-square-foot space first opened in 2015, then recently expanded to 220,000 square feet. The park now features eight new slides, a wave pool, an enhanced area for children, an extended lazy river and additional adult swim-up bars. The resort has also added 520 new guest rooms and suites, bringing the total to nearly 1,000 on-site accommodations.

The phase two expansion began in April 2015, only nine months after the facility's debut. This region was chosen as the location for the country’s largest indoor waterpark for one simple reason: “The Poconos area is one of the premiere tourist destinations in the country, and there is demand in the market,” said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts & Conventions. “There are 44 million people that live within a few hours of the location.”

Nelson would not divulge whether the organization is planning further expansion, instead he declared that Kalahari is “focusing all efforts on the current resort offerings.”
