His name may not be familiar, but his work probably is. Bill Ryan, vice president/ COO at Architectural Design Consultants, was responsible for developing the initial concept prototype design for the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

He has since developed designs for more than 45 other waterpark resort projects, including several of the other Great Wolf Lodge locations, as well as properties for Kalahari Resorts and Wilderness Resorts, Wave Development Group and Hollister Interchange Resort Development, LLC.

An 87-year-old firm located in the Wisconsin Dells, ADC specializes in the hospitality market. Founder Bob Nagel began the firm working on small mom-and-pop hotels and motels, and Ryan brings this sensibility to the waterpark resort arena.

“I’d like to think that we are setting standards of quality and enabling waterpark resorts to become a larger percentage of the overall hotel/resort market,” Ryan says.

He adds that his role with ADC involves leading the design team through the process. Ryan developed an interest in architectural design and construction from an early age by working with his father, who owned a small commercial construction firm in the Wisconsin Dells area.

“Having grown up in the Wisconsin Dells, it has been particularly fulfilling to have been able to play such a large part in the growth of my community,” Ryan says. “Before the introduction of indoor waterparks, this area had essentially a 90-day tourist season. Now we have tourists all year long, and many of the locals who might otherwise have spent winters in warmer climates are staying here.”
