For the 17th year in a row, the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson will kick off the summer with its message for water safety.

Taking place across the globe, the event includes hundreds of aquatics facilities in a synchronized event designed to teach critical water safety skills to children and adults and spread the message that swimming lessons save lives. Organizers have timed the event in June because it’s a month before the month that traditionally sees most drownings, July.

“In the United States, July consistently ranks as the deadliest month for drowning incidents, with the July 4th holiday weekend marking a particularly high-risk period as families gather around pools, lakes, and beaches,” organizers said. “This timing makes the lesson’s water safety message especially urgent for American families, while the global reach addresses year-round drowning risks in countries with different seasonal patterns.”

Venues will include waterparks, swim schools, and community pools across six continents.

This year’s WLSL takes place Thursday, June 25, 2026.

To date, organizers said, the WLSL has included more than 448,000 children and adults in 56 countries on six continents, and resulting in more than 3.3 billion media impressions promoting its message.
