The designers of this project were fully committed to their concept. It was a simple one: Transform a neutral-looking, functional child’s pool into a jungle attraction meant to rival the spa’s medicinal pools and the outdoor slide complex also housed in the Hungarian spa.
There would be no blending of fun with elegance, no adding a couple of slides for the kids and calling it a day. This would be just pure jungle-themed fun, all 3,444 sq. ft. of it—every surface, every structure, every play feature would serve this storyline. And it had to be achieved on a 105-million-forint budget, equal to roughly $350,000 USD.
The team recognized that a jungle theme could deliver everything children desire in a play environment: a fully immersive world rich with variety and sensory stimulation. Dense vegetation, hidden creatures, dramatic landforms, abundant water features, and countless opportunities for exploration combined to create an engaging and all-encompassing experience. The theme also offered long-term flexibility, allowing future expansions and the integration of virtually any water feature while remaining true to the overall design concept.

To honor the objective, designers completed several jungle water attractions and themed elements. The pre-existing children’s water slides now move through the signature Gorilla Cave, a sculpted glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) structure with internal lighting that animates the gorilla’s eyes, mist generators that produce its “breath,” and integrated rain and sound effects.
In the custom-designed waterplay table, children manipulate dams, gates, and water mills. Water spouts and water cannons are fashioned as jungle animals, including a sloth, tiger, chameleon, baby gorilla, giant butterfly, giant dragonfly, as well as coconut palms. Other jungle-themed elements included a dragon’s castle, artificial rockwork, a volcano, parrots, toucans, coconut palm-inspired columns, and artificial plants.
A wide color palette is used, including earth-inspired browns and neutrals, greens, warm reds and ochres for a volcano and lava flow, and bright accent colors for the birds and animals to enchant young children.
