At Margaritaville, Kansas City, brand and theme cohesion are very evident.
The location, part of the resort chain inspired by the namesake song by Jimmy Buffet, was designed to bring the tropics to the Midwest, with indoor and outdoor spaces to provide year-round usage. It is designed to attract a range of visitors, from those seeking active recreation to those looking to relax in true Parrothead fashion. The range of activities includes an indoor leisure pool with underwater bench seating, a basketball hoop, a climbing wall, and an aquatic obstacle course. Outdoors, the space features a zero-depth-entry pool, interactive water features, in-water lounging ledges, underwater tables and bench seating, a waterslide, and decorative waterfall elements.

While the design is meant to evoke the tropics, the design team used a subtle palette to also promote a luxury feel. The combination of beige and various shades of aqua creates a tropical atmosphere tinged with nostalgia. Beige covers the expansive surfaces, such as the decks and building exteriors. Aquas are used for the accents that are more easily replaced or resurfaced, such as shade umbrellas, deck chairs, and balcony railings on the building. Play features, such as the waterslide, were chosen in an aqua palette to keep the contrast in line with the luxury vibes. Lime green provides a pop of color and added dimensionality. Practically speaking, the bright color helps delineate zones when used only in certain areas.
Reinforcing the Margaritaville brand are lime slices that serve as clocks or even the seats on in-pool bar stools. A “Margarita Kansas City” mosaic logo on the bottom of one of the pools features a compass to welcome travelers and further reinforce the global brand.
The indoor aquatics space features the same color treatment, with aquas chosen for the play equipment, and a tropical- and travel-themed mural in blue tones. Dark aqua ceiling ornamentation takes on a wave theme, and even the metallic structural elements at the ceiling have been coated in the same color. Shade has become a prized commodity in outdoor aquatics environments, and this setting provides plenty, not in the form of built structures, but rather with an umbrella erected at every second or third chase lounge, and sheltered cabanas
