New Hampshire may become the first state to eliminate its pool inspection program to balance its budget.

According to an Associated Press report on Forbes.com, cutting the pool inspection program would potentially save $139,000, but some argue that it would hurt the state’s $4 billion tourism industry.

“Environmental Services Commissioner Thomas Burack says without the program, people would be at greater risk of lung, skin and eye infections as well as gastric illnesses,” the AP report noted.
